Universal waste is a category of hazardous waste that is widely generated across a variety of establishments. The regulations for universal waste have been streamlined to ease regulatory burden and promote recycling of these materials. The Office of Environmental Health and Safety oversees the Universal Waste Program at Brown University and monitors compliance on campus with state and federal regulations.
